Shoe Refashions

Is it just me or when you see really cute shoes but don't want to pay that much money for it and pass it up? If you have been wanting to buy cute shoes and have some plain boring shoes in your closet you were thinking about getting rid of, this post might be for you!

I had a couple old pairs I haven't been wearing for a long time. The beige ones I found at 6pm for a really good deal. When I saw this online, I thought they looked nice, but when I opened the box I was really disappointed. The material used for the shoes looked cheap and somehow it looked... blah... I was going to return them. Check out the trio.

I decided to go through my scraps, beads and such to perform shoe surgery!

Case 1: White shoes

They weren't a bad pair, but for some reasons I didn't care for it that much... I wanted to give them some personality. Check them out after some lace and fabric flowers with beads in center.

Case 2: Black shoes

Actually, these were my favorite pair at one point. It is very comfortable to wear, but the cotton fabric is starting to wear out. I guess that is why I stopped wearing them, other than that, it is still in good condition. I believe that with a little bit of a face lift, it will still be a great pair. I decided to make ruffles and rosette out my leftover black fabric strips to embellish them.

After...

Case 3: Beige shoes

I think this is my most favorite out of the three pairs after the makeover. I wanted to do something really different and fun. I added several colors and textures.

I am so excited to have three pairs of (old) NEW shoes that I love… The best part? I didn't spend a dime to do these makeovers! As I mentioned my favorite is the last pair, and I have been wearing them a lot lately.

All you need for this project are old shoes, some scraps of fabric, lace, beads and such, fabric glue, and a little bit of imagination. Go fish in your closet, you might have some shoes to refashion. :)

Tutorial/How I Turned a Dollar Store Find to a Ring Display Case

I am pretty excited about this project I was just about share with you, because, I only spent $1 to buy the wood frame at the dollar store about year ago or so, and rest of the material was I already had at home and leftovers from other projects!

Even though you don't have exactly the same frame, no worries. You simply need to increase or decrease the number of "fabric spring roll" :) you put in.

1. One dollar frame... this is the before picture that I simply spray painted it to prep for the project and set a side.

2. To make the "fabric spring roll"( just don't know the proper name for it)to slide the rings in, cut 4"x 4" squares out of linen and slightly less than 2"w X 9"L batting. In this case I cut out 27 pieces each, but this will change depends on the wood frame you have.

3. Fold the batting few times to make it look like the one in the picture and sew the end.

4. Place the folded batting onto the 4"x 4" fabric diagnally, than stard wrapping it like making a spring roll. Use pictures as a guide.

then, sew the end.

You need to make this how many ever you need, but this is like the perfect part to make it into take and go project in the zip lock bag.

5. Drizzle the glue from glue gun into the each square. Quickly put the fabric spring rolls into the square before the glue gets dry. Its best to work one square at the time.

6. Use butter knife to push in some ends that are sticking out.

You see the difference of before and after?

7. Now, it is time to enjoy.

Each rings are snugly in it's place...I LOVE it.

Just like I said in earlier, you don't have to have exact same frame to make a ring display case like this. You could even use glasses, baskets, boxes, cans, I mean the possibilities to make this unique are endless. Did I make you wanna look around your house a bit to see what you can find? :)

Coin Purse

Whenever I have spare time (which is mostly while I am waiting for my kiddos in the car) I make fabric folded flowers, yo-yo's and such from scraps. I have a small box I keep in my car with such small projects.

Those embellishments come in handy when I want to decorate a random project. I will show you an example.

I found this coin purse at a thrift store several months ago for a dollar. It was mint condition, and I love Gamaguchi coin purse (Gama-guchi is a Japanese word for mouth of frog) I couldn't pass it up.

While I couldn't really work on a big project, I gave a little makeover to this little missy.

2011 Projects Top 10

I can't believe the year is ending. I feel like each year is going by faster and faster (don't tell me it's that I am getting old, I blame the busy schedule...).

I went through my posts from this year and picked my favorite top 10 projects to share with you. Which one was your favorite? Is there anything you want to see at Tea Rose Home in year 2012? Tell me what you think. :)

No. 10 Scrap book embellishment rings

This is such an easy project, but I love the uniqueness of these rings!

No.9 Anthoro Inspired Necklace

I used various buttons, beads and such to create this one of a kind necklace. statement necklace such as this is great to dress up a simple top.

No.8 Quilt for raising money for Japanese earthquake victims

After the terrible earthquake in Japan, I witnessed so many wonderful people come together to do something for the people in Japan. I created this quilt to donate for a fund raiser at a huge garage sale organized by Japanese people who live around here. They were able to raise about five thousand dollars in one day!

No.7 Same Quilts, Different Personalities Quilts

I finished these quilt tops for my boys YEARS ago, and this year I finally finished them! It is such a good feeling to complete things like these. The great part is that the boys love the quilts and they both use them every single day. :)

No.6 Five Kitchen Towels Dress

When I found those kitchen towels I had a flash of an idea in my head and I had to give it a try. It is such an easy project, light and absorbent fabric is perfect for the summer time.

No.5 Neapolitan Dress

I wanted to create a simple dress for a girl. With babushka and the belt, there are several ways to dress up this dress.

No.4 The Very Hungry Caterpillar Felt Food

I get asked all the time if I sell these on Etsy... I only made them for my little girl, and they are not for sale, but perhaps, I might come up with a tutorial in the future?

No.3 JCrew Inspired Dress

I love this dress, it turned out pretty close to what I planned. I was inspired by a dress by JCrew, but put my own spin on it.

No.2 She Carries Flowers

Near the end of summer, I was making a bunch of yo-yo's and fabric folded flowers for this project. I just had to get busy to give real shape to an idea I had in my head. I use the bag all the time, it is just the perfect size to carry it all, not to mention, all the flowers make me smile.

Can you guess what my most favorite project is? (drum roll.....)
No.1 is She Wears Flowers

Have you guessed it? Is this also your favorite? I must say, I just LOVE how this cardigan turned out. Every time I wear it, I don't mind the cold weather so much. It is simply a very cheerful feminine top.

I hope you have enjoyed visiting me this year, and continue to do so in the coming year. Because of all the procedures I'm going to have, the frequency of my tutorials might slow down. My wish is that I will be able to create things that are true to my style, yet learn something new and reflect that in whatever I make.

I hope you all to have a happy new year... Be happy everyone! :)
