Basket Makeover

I have a serious love for basket style handbags. I hardly ever find the ones that I like, at the price I am willing to pay at the retail stores. So what do I do?
I find baskets at thrift stores and embellish them however I like.

The hard part is finding the baskets that are in really good condition with character.

Once I find some, there is no way that I can pass them up, I have to have them!

This basket has a lot of potential; let's see how I do...

Isn't she a cutie? I love the shape, and how the handles are flexible.
After thinking it over(and over and over) I finally started working on it.

First I added leather to the handles...

Then, I used a handkerchief I had, for lining. Folded the sides and added a couple buttons...

I was pretty happy with the results so far, then as usual I got stuck with decision making...

Silky brown flower corsage?

or, a cotton flower corsage?

I guess I don't have to pick only one, since they are removable, I can switch them up and have fun! Which one is your favorite?

By the way, I was asked to do a review for Olive Garden, and the post is coming up next week (did I mention a giveaway for my Tea Rose Home readers?!). I can't wait to share my experience trying out their 3 course dinner for $12.95 promotion! :)

Link Party No. 40 and New Basket Makeover

I have been staying low...it's been about three weeks, and I still haven't gotten over this cold! I went through the whole symptoms like, cold chills, aches, fever, and so on. I took antibiotics and thought that everything is over... boy was I wrong. I think I have whole other thing now. Massive cough, and sneezing, followed by aching and fever... Holy cow!

I am still functioning though. Well, three small kiddos clinging how can I not.

I thought if I am up doing things, might as well, do something fun and take my mind off of these annoying flu symptoms.

I decided to do one of the projects that I have wanted to do for a while. I found this basket at one of my usual thrift store trips last summer. It had a yucky liner attached to it. I came home, took that off and cleaned it well...

Before...

After...

I made a new liner with a type of polka dot pattern fabric. It is removable for washing, and has drawstring to close it shut. If I don't want to be bothered by opening and closing the fabric, I can always fold the fabric inside.

Large corsage adds extra character to the basket...

I think it will be fun Spring/Summer basket.

Whenever I do a basket makeover, the hardest part is parting from them. I put so much thought and effort into them; I can't deny feelings of attachment there. Since I don't live in a 100,000 square foot home, I can't keep everything.
I am thinking about putting some of my creations in my etsy shop...

Well, we shall see.

Now, it is your turn to show us what you have been working on! Here are the rules;

1. Please post something YOU made. It doesn't matter if it is crochet, quilt, clothing, anything would be fine. I want to see it! If you use someone's idea or patterns please give them the rightful credit.

2. Link to your specific post, that way it is easier for everybody to find and read it.

3. Please grab the "Tea Rose Home" grab button, and link back from your post. If you can mention the party in your post or place the button on your side bar, that would be great! I want more people to have a chance to come and show off their creation.

Thank you for your participation, and making this link party sucssesful and fun!

Basket Makeover ~Winter Style~

I finished the makeover a few days ago. I wanted to take good pictures outside but the weather has been awful! Don't get me wrong, I love snow. I think it is so beautiful to see the earth covered with snow... But it is very challenging to take pictures for my projects.

So, I only have pictures I took inside the house.

Before...

With some spray paint, real rabbit hair, charms, and a corsage...

Here is the after...

Depends on the outfit, it is better not to have so many accessories on the basket. So, I made it so that the charm and the corsage are removable. It is so much fun to see a basket transform and gain character. I really enjoy the process. When weather is better, I have several more baskets I want to spray paint. I can't wait share them with you!

Link Party No.12 and My Basket Makeover

I love baskets. I have written about baskets, I have done many basket makeovers in the past and blogged about them. If you have been reading my blog for a long time, you might be thinking "enough already" (no, Tea Rose Home readers are nice people, you don't think that way... I hope).

I like the kind of basket that can sit on its own and has handles on both sides, They are perfect for making over to handbags. I find them at yard sales and thrift stores, but to find the ones that I like that are in a good condition is very rare.

Going back to the basket makeovers... I will share my past makeovers. I added lining, lace, pom-poms, ribbons and flowers.

A while ago, I was going through my favorite Japanese magazine, and an article totaly opened my eyes to a new area of basket makeovers! They featured the very popular designer in Paris, Céline Dupuy. She does beautiful basket makeovers and she spray paints the baskets! I have seen many baskets that are painted before, but when I do a basket makeover, it never occured to me to paint mine. I love the natural colors of baskets, I guess I wanted to keep the original look.

Although, her work was amazing, and inspiring. I felt like my basket makeovers have more possibilites too. I had to try it right away (yeap, that's me, my curiousity won't keep me waiting for long).

This is the basket I just madeover...

Spray painted basket meets Heather Bailey...

I LOVE IT!! It takes more time, not to mention the fumes, but I love the results. What a difference a coat of paint makes! To color the basket and sew the lining was such an exciting process, I could hardly wait to put everything togethter. I also made little accesories on the side.

I think this is going to be my obsession for this summer.

Ok, ladies, what have you been working on? Let us see your wonderful creations, and say hello to everyone!

Here are the rules:

Sponsor Giveaway and Latest Basket Make Over

I couldn't help it. I had this basket to pretty up for my etsy shop for a while. When I went through my stash of fabrics, I found the perfect brown that would go with the basket. I had to make ruffles. Usually, my baskets have flower clips, but this time I wanted to do something diffrent.

Here is the before picture...

then after...

I love it. I made a charm with leather string and beads for the basket. My goal was to achieve a feminine look without being too cutsy.

I have been working on a tutorial this week and I was ready to take the final pictures, then it snowed today, ugh! I will post it sometime next week. I am super excited for this, I hope you are too.

I posted an exciting sponsor giveaway at my sponsor's page today! Head over to check it out and say hello to my sponsor, and leave comments to be entered for a chance to win the prize. Good luck everyone!

Make Over ~Love for Basket Style Bags~

Over the past several months, I found a few baskets at some thrift stores. What I love to do is take them home, clean them up, give them some character. Here are the latest basket makeovers that I did, I wanted to share the pictures with you all.

The first one is this dark brown basket. I accesorized it with some fur and ribbons...

and gave it a new look.

The next one, I forgot to take a before picture, but I added pom-poms, ribbons, and a removable flower clip. I think it will be so cute to pair up with some spring and summer cotton dresses!

Each time when I give a basket a new life, I form some kind of attachment. During that process, I think about what kind of clothing might go with it, or various color schemes... and they all come out as a basket that I want to use and carry around!! BUT, I can't keep them all to myself, unless I live in a house with a humongous closet. So, I will be listing these baskets on my etsy shop soon. If you are one of those people with extra closet space, head over to my shop and check them out!

I will be posting a tutoral on Friday. I hope you all are having a nice week!!
